Dans l&rsquo;Afrique traditionnelle et m\u00eame auourd&rsquo;hui encore dans certains villages africains, il est ce grand arbre sous lequel se r\u00e9solvent les palabres et o\u00f9 se prennent les grandes d\u00e9cisions concernant la vie de la communaut\u00e9. Le Jala yiri n&rsquo;est pas connu seulement \u00e0 cause de son ombre mais aussi et surtout \u00e0 cause de ses vertus th\u00e9rapeutiques. Si son \u00e9corce est tr\u00e8s am\u00e8re, sa d\u00e9coction, dans la m\u00e9decine traditionnelle africaine, permet de soigner les maux de ventre et l&rsquo;infertilit\u00e9 aussi bien chez les hommes que chez les femmes.
